August 1, 1998
Our little tour went real well. The Dali Museum show was terrific-the
audience ranged in age from 14 - 65 and they all loved it! Richard did
his debut performance at Hotshots--I decided he really shouldnt enter
the building at all because if caught, each employee would get a $600
fine and I didnt want to put them in that position---so Richard
stood outside the front door! He was a HUGE hit-I'm sure the customers
liked his song (Jimi Hendrix bluesy thing) better then us, but what the
hell!! Richard had a GREAT time and was really thrilled--he later said
"thats what I want to do with my life". So after being humiliated by him
we headed to the north of Georgia to finish the tour--all the shows went
very well, but especially Dotties in Atlanta. It's a great place to
play-great audience, very, very nice (and honest!) club owner/manager.
We also had an excellent show in Savannah. Athens was wierd-guess it
wasn't advertised at all cause there were about 50 people! We have played
there lots of times before and done real well, so maybe there were
finals going on or something. OR maybe theyre just sick of me--that's
always a possibility. But overall we had a good time and did fine.
Ive just finished booking another week-long tour. We were asked to play
at a release party for the children's cd in Atlanta on August 7th
(at the Cotton Club) and had been asked to play in Chicago on the 11th
so I thought this would be perfect for a quick little jaunt from Atlanta
to Chicago and back. However, i hadn't reckoned with Kentucky and
Tennessee! There is no interest whatsoever in rock and roll in either
state--------the only show i managed to get was one in Nashville.
Louisville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, Lexington---not interested!! so now i
have to cut THEM out of my map. its getting smaller and smaller!
We're going to spend a day in Clay Harper's studio (Casino in Atlanta).
I dont have any songs really, but we'll come up with something to make
it worthwhile. Any ideas?
Today (August 1) is the first day in about 6 weeks that it's below
90 degrees outside. Its been a horrible summer here.
Our dog Yanni is recuperating from treatment for heartworms. Poor
little dear isn't allowed to run around for three weeks (she's an outdoor
dog and is not having any fun at all inside!).
Sonny, my guitar player, was in an accident in Los Angeles and has
had to have facial plastic surgery. He's okay, thank God, but he lives
in Holland and has to stay here (in L.A.) for weeks and weeks of
recuperating/getting checked, etc. and of course he's lonely. If you want
to send him a message, email it to me and I'll forward it.
